Nestled just north of Charlotte, Huntersville offers a vibrant mix of activities and experiences. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker, nature lover, food enthusiast, or history buff, there’s something for everyone. Here’s your ultimate guide to the best things to do in Huntersville, NC for 2025!
Huntersville North Carolina is more than a charming town, where I stop in often because of its proximity to Charlotte NC. Many in the area treat Huntersville as if it is a suburb of Charlotte, and with the Interstate 77 traffic in the area, you will see that its a busy place. But still that does not take away from the beauty of the town. It is the perfect place to be close to Charlotte, but far enough away. Just remember to avoid rush hour traffic on Interstate 77.
Exploring the Best Things to do in Huntersville, NC
Huntersville is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. With its scenic parks, lush preserves, and stunning lake views, it’s the perfect spot to reconnect with nature.
Lake Norman and Jetton Park
The jewel of Huntersville’s outdoor attractions is Lake Norman, the largest man-made lake in North Carolina. So large that many cities in the area call it home. Mooresville, Troutman and a few others are great towns and cities that call the shores of Lake Norman home. Spend your day kayaking, paddleboarding, or just relaxing by the shores.
For a laid-back picnic or a leisurely walk, head to Jetton Park, which offers many recreational activities like paved trails surrounded by serene waters and majestic trees where you can go walking, and biking. You can go fishing, kids can play on the playground, or even ride bikes. It is up to you to decide what will be fun.
I have camped at Lake Norman State Park and taken a boat out on the lake. It is a wonderful place. In fact it is featured in a blog I wrote, if you would like to check it out.
Latta Nature Preserve
Looking for hiking trails and encounters with wildlife? The Latta Nature Preserve is your go-to. With over 1,460 acres of protected land, it hosts multiple trails with varying difficulty levels, horseback riding, and a complex for learning. This historic site used to be a cotton plantation owned by James Latta, who arrived here from Ireland in 1785 in fact the Latta Plantation or now known as the Latta Place is on the property. Explore the trails, go fishing on Mountain Island Lake, or visit the old-style building on the property.
Located in the historic Latta plantation, pay a visit to the Carolina Raptor Center. This is the perfect place for a self-guided tour of over 30 different species of birds, but not just any birds. These are birds of prey. Think of Eagles, Falcons and my favorite the owls. Some of which have been rescued and rehabilitated, and the center is dedicated to protecting these birds, conservation and teaching everyone who visits about these magnificent birds.
Roosevelt Wilson Park
For a peaceful escape, located in nearby Davidson and also on the shores of Lake Norman, the Roosevelt Wilson Park offers scenic walking trails, picturesque ponds, and plenty of sunny spots to relax. It’s also a great place for birdwatching and spotting native wildlife. I have spent many a Sunday afternoon bird watching. You will always find many Canadian Geese in the area.

Art is more than just paint, and this place will open your eyes to it all.

Neoteric Brewery is perfect for small-batch, experimental brews. The beers are great, but I like the Slushies. Plus their friendly staff is the best
Ass Clown Brewing Company showcases quirky, bold beer flavors. Located in neighboring Cornelius, I had to mention and not because a friend of mine works there. Try one of their sours, like Imperial Apple Pie.
Must-Try Restaurants
Duckworth’s Grill and Taphouse serves up hearty burgers and craft beer. This is one of the best places for Nachos or Flatbreads. I have visited often, and the parking lot is always full.
For BBQ lovers, Midwood Smokehouse is a must-visit. The vinegar based sauce makes my heart happy. The first time you are there try the bacon wrapped jalapenos and the burnt ends
If you’re after authentic Italian cuisine, Antico Italian Restaurant will transport you straight to Italy with every bite. I have a family member that swears it the best Italian in the area.

Many well-known retail stores like Lulumelon, Aerie, Lovesac and Rolex, and the Cheesecake factory, Bad Daddy's Burgers, and Brown Bag Seafood Company for delicious food. Plus 1 of my favorites I mentioned earlier is Midwood Smokehouse. Easy access with plenty of parking, and they even have a movie theater and events during the year.
